Ever get stuck looking for that one word to describe something?
You’re not alone…
I recently received an email from a marketing director asking the question, “Right at this moment, I am trying to come up with a catchy slogan … about our amenities, need ONE WORD to go with it. Got any?”
My wife Natasha just finished proofing our Resident360 newsletter and remarks to me, “Josh, you use the same words over and over again in your apartment marketing newsletter. It’s either cool, amazing, good or great. Can’t you find better words to use?”
I scoured the Internet for sources and created the list below of 167 power words to use in apartment marketing. If you find yourself stuck needing 1-2 punchy words to spice up your marketing, use this list.
Where should I use these words in my apartment marketing?
Here’s a few ideas – Craigslist ad titles, ILS descriptions, descriptions of your actual units, describing your amenities, Google and Facebook Ad copy, brochures, postcards, social media posts, construction banners, email blast campaigns – anywhere that you need to replace 1 – 2 dull words with something more powerful.
Example #1: You’re writing a Craigslist ad for a one bedroom corner unit. Your ad title could be something like this:
“Visually Stunning 1 Bedroom Corner Unit Available Now” (I pulled the words “Visually Stunning” and “Now” from the list above)
Example #2: Instead of saying “Luxury Amenities” (which has been overused in the last few years, I doubt it carries much meaning anymore). Let’s replace the word “Luxury” with something new and powerful, “Must Have.” Just a quick word swap spices it up, “Must Have Amenities.”
Example #3: The word “Today” is useful in a call to action: Apply Today, Sign a Lease Today & Get $200 Off.
Example #4: Let’s say you have a community in a hot restaurant district and you want to spice up your web copy. You could have text like this: You’ll love our prime location. Mouth-watering restaurants within walking distance of your doorstep. (Bold words are from the list above).
Anytime you have a boring, generic, non-emotional word describing your apartments – feel free to use the list above to replace them with something more spicy. A good exercise would be to review your collateral and website. Are their generic words that can be replaced with something more powerful?
